San Francisco overcomes a faulty start to put away Atlanta in the 2nd quarter. Following a 1-yard TD run by Joe Montana to start the game, Montana fumbles twice. However, Montana tosses a pair of TD passes in the 2nd quarter as the 49ers open a 28-3 lead.

In between Montana's TD passes in the 2nd quarter, Charles Haley picks up a fumble and returns it 3 yards for a TD. Montana goes 16-of-19 for 270 yards and 3 TDs while Jerry Rice has 2 TD catches. Roger Craig rushes for 109 yards on 17 carries.
