Giants survive big Redskins' rally to win 27-24 in season-opening MNF.

Down 11 twice, Washington takes a 24-21 lead in the 4th quarter, but Phil Simms drives New York to a pair of FGs, including a 52-yarder by Raul Allegre on the final play. Simms had been the victim when Monte Coleman stepped in front of Mark Bavaro and returned it 24 yards for the go-ahead score in the 4th quarter.

Simms throws for 255 yards and 2 1st half TDs as the Giants take a 14-0 lead. Meanwhile, Lawrence Taylor is dominating on defense, with a sack and 2 forced fumbles.

However, Mark Rypien answers with 349 yards and 2 TD passes to lead the Redskins' rally. His 6-yard TD pass to Art Monk early in the 3rd quarter draws Washington within 21-17.
