Washington overcomes the loss of QB Mark Rypien to injury and a stalled offense to beat Dallas. The Redskins manage 4 FGs and get their lone TD on an 18-yard INT return by Darrell Green for a 19-6 lead in the 4th quarter.

The Cowboys rally, drawing with in a TD when Emmitt Smith scores on a 2-yard run. Washington takes a safety rather than punting from its own end zone in the final 2 minutes but then stops Dallas to preserve the win.
