San Francisco makes a late defensive stand to deny Phoenix's 4th quarter rally from a 14-3 deficit. The Cardinals had drawn within 14-10 on a 26-yard TD pass from Stan Gelbaugh to Ernie Jones, but Gelbaugh is unable to get them into the end zone after moving inside the 30 in the final minute.

The Cardinals manage just 176 yards as the 49ers' defense holds up to offset a lethargic offense behind Steve Bono. Usually potent San Francisco gains just 257 yards on offense.
