Game Notes

Cowboys hold off the Falcons for 31-27 win.

Emmitt Smith rushes for 160 yards and 2 TDs, to move past Barry Sanders for the rushing title. However, his fumble deep in Atlanta territory with less than 2 minutes left give the Falcons one last chance that expires with them threatening for the winning score, as Dallas prevents them from winning the NFC West.

The Cowboys come out ahead 21-14 in a big play 1st half, as Alexander Wright returns a kickoff 102 yards for a TD and team record. However, the Falcons battle back to go ahead 27-24 on a 2nd Chris Miller-to-Michael Haynes TD pass. They hook up on TDs of 67 and 43 yards, as Miller throws for 315 yards and 3 TDs, and Haynes catches 5 passes for 148 yards.

Smith carries Dallas to the go-ahead score early in the 4th quarter, reaching the end zone on a 6-yard TD run.
