Washington cruises by Atlanta on Mark Rypien's career day. Rypien is unbothered by cold, wet conditions throwing for 442 yards and 6 TDs and running for another TD. Gary Clark catches 4 passes for 203 yards and 3 TDs and Art Monk adds 7 for 164 yards and 2 TDs.

The Redskins erupt for 21 points in the 2nd quarter, opening 28-3 lead on the 2nd Rypien-to-Clark TD pass. After the Falcons draw within 28-17 on a pair of TD passes by Billy Joe Tolliver, Washington responds with 3 TD passes by Rypien, the last two, an 82-yarder to Clark and a 64-yarder to Monk.
