New Orleans limits Barry Sanders to just 36 yards on 9 carries, forcing Detroit to rely on its passing game and the weak arm of Rodney Peete. Peete manages just a 7-yard TD pass to Brett Perriman late in the 1st half for a 7-3 lead.

The Saints' offense doesn't generate much either, but does manage to produce 3 FG attempts by Morten Andersen, who converts 2, and a 1-yard TD run by Vaughn Dunbar. Dunbar rushes for 70 yards and his 1st NFL TD.
