Detroit rides Barry Sanders and delivers the final kick after a crazy contest with Dallas. Jason Hanson hits a 44-yard FG in the closing minute of OT after having a desperation 57-yarder in regulation blocked, and missing another from 54 yards in OT. Hanson gets a last chance after Broderick Thomas sacks Troy Aikman forcing a fumble that Thomas recovers in Dallas territory.

Sanders wins the battle of stars with Emmitt Smith, rushing for 194 yards on 40 carries. Smith runs for 143 yards and 1 TD on 29 carries. Smith's 6-yard TD run late in the 4th quarter forges a tie and sets up OT.
