Chargers rally to nip the Steelers 37-34 in a shootout.

Backup QB Gale Gilbert steps in when Stan Humphries is injured and leads San Diego to the winning 32-yard FG by John Carney on the next to last play, earning a 1st round playoff bye. Pittsburgh had gone ahead 34-27 on Mike Tomczak's 11-yard TD pass to Andre Hastings, but the Chargers answer with a 20-yard TD run by Natrone Means.

Tomczak hits Charles Johnson with an 84-yard TD pass early in the 4th quarter for a 27-24 lead, one of 3 lead changes in the 4th quarter. Johnson catches 4 passes for 165 yards and 2 TDs, with Tomczak and Neil O'Donnell combining for 321 yards and 3 TD passes.

However, special teams come up big for San Diego with 3 FGs by John Carney and a 90-yard KO return for a TD by Andre Coleman.
