Miami makes a statement in Jimmy Johnson's coaching debut, dominating New England with a running game and defense. Karim Abdul-Jabbar rushes for 115 yards and 1 TD in his 1st game.

The ball bounces the Dolphins' way from the start when Sean Hill picks up a fumble by Louis Oliver and runs it in for the 1st score as Oliver picks off Drew Bledsoe on the opening series. Abdul-Jabbar's 3-yard TD run gives Miami a 17-3 lead at halftime. After Stanley Pritchett fumbles while running toward the end zone, Scott Miller falls on it for a 24-3 lead in the 3rd quarter.
