Game Notes

Dolphins hold off the Jets for 24-17 win.

A defensive stand and turnover preserve the win for Miami, forcing a 3-way tie atop the AFC East. A controversial 'no catch' ruling on 4th down ends one Jets' rally attempt and George Teague stops the other by picking off Glenn Foley with 1:00 left.

After falling asleep offensively after driving for a TD on the opening drive, the Dolphins' offense awakes late in the 1st half and opens a 24-10 lead after converting a fumble into a 21-yard FG by Olindo Mare w/ 8:50 left in the 4th quarter. Karim Abdul-Jabbar rushes for 103 yards and 2 TDs while Dan Marino hits 18-of-29 for 186 yards and 1 TD.

New York answers Mare's FG with a quick-strike 3-play drive capped by Adrian Murrell's 43-yard TD run to pull within 24-17. However, the Dolphins' defense is able to stop 2 final threats.
