49ers dominate the Saints 33-7.

Steve Young returns to the lineup, hitting 18-of-21 for 220 yards and 3 TDs as San Francisco controls from beginning to end. After a long kickoff return into New Orleans territory sets up a FG on the opening series, the entire game is played on the Saints' side of the field until the middle of the 2nd quarter. By which time, the 49ers have opened a 16-0 lead.

Young's 2nd TD pass to Brent Jones, a 1-yarder in the 2nd quarter gives San Francisco a 23-0 lead and ends the competitive phase against the mistake-prone Saints. New Orleans commits 8 turnovers, with starter Heath Shuler and Danny Wuerffel each suffering 3 picks. Rod Woodson has 3 of the interceptions and Tryonne Drakeford adds 2 more.
