Jacksonville dominates the 2nd half, dealing San Francisco its worst opening game loss. Leading 6-3 at the half, the Jaguars break things open early in the 3rd quarter when Jason Craft returns a fumbled kickoff 23 yards for a TD after Mike Hollis' 3rd FG, giving them a 17-3 lead.

Mark Brunell stretches the lead to 24-3 with a 4-yard TD pass to Damon Jones late in the 3rd quarter. Brunell finishes 22-of-30 for 265 yards while Steve Young is just 9-of-26 for yards while suffering 2 INTs and 2 sacks.
