Chicago delivers a dominant performance to capture its 1st September win since 1996, weathering a pair of big plays by Kansas City. Shane Matthews makes his 1st start, throwing for 245 yards and 2 TDs.

Matthews tosses a 1-yard TD to John Allred late in the 1st half to open a 20-3 lead for the Bears. Kansas City draws close in the 2nd half as Elvin Grbac combines with Derrick Alexander on a 86-yard TD pass, and later Donnie Edwards returns a fumble 79 yards for a score.
