New England falls from the unbeaten ranks when Adam Vinatieri's 32-yard FG attempt w/ :09 left his the upright. Vinatieri earlier missed from 48 yards in the 3rd quarter, combining with 4 turnovers to bring the Patriots' demise.

Kansas City struggled offensively through the 1st half before finding a running game in the 2nd half, helping to set up a 1-yard TD run by Donnell Bennett for a 10-7 lead. The Chiefs extended the lead to 16-7 with a pair of FGs by Pete Stoyanovich before New England struck with a 8-yard TD pass from Drew Bledsoe to Shawn Jefferson cutting the deficit to 16-14 w/ 2:43 left.
