Game Notes

Redskins beat the Cowboys 31-17.

Washington returns to the Super Bowl for the 1st time in 10 years with a physical beating of Dallas. The Redskins knockout Danny White in the 1st half with a concussion and then land the finishing blows in the 2nd half when Darryl Grant returns an INT for the clinching TD.

John Riggins provides the power on offense, rushing for 140 yards and 2 TDs behind the Hogs line. The Cowboys draw within 21-17 on Gary Hogeboom's 23-yard TD pass to Butch Johnson in the 3rd quarter, but the 2nd and 3rd turnovers by Dallas prove to be too much.

Mark Moseley kicks a 29-yard FG after Mel Kaufman picks off Hogeboom, and then Grant gathers in a pass batted by Dexter Manley and carries it in 10 yards for a 31-17 lead in the 4th quarter.
