Game Notes

Cowboys rally behind Danny White to beat the Falcons 27-20.

White takes over with Dallas trailing 20-13 late in the 1st half after Roger Staubach is knocked out of the game with a concussion. White hits Jackie Smith with a 2-yard TD pass in the 3rd quarter to tie it, and then Scott Laidlaw punches in a 1-yard TD run after being stopped on his 1st 2 attempts in the 4th quarter.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys' defense puts a stop to the Atlanta offense. Steve Bartkowski hooks up with Wallace Francis for a 17-yard TD pass in the 2nd quarter to give the Falcons a 17-13 lead. Tim Mazzetti's 2nd FG, late in the 2nd quarter extends the lead to 20-13. Staubach is knocked out on the next series after a hit by Robert Pennywell.

The Cowboys' backup plans prove effective. White hits 10-of-20 for 127 yards in relief, Smith catches 3 passes for 38 yards and 1 TD while stepping into a reserve role, and Laidlaw leads Dallas with 66 yards rushing, replacing injured Robert Newhouse.

Bubba Bean rushes for 72 yards and 1 TD while Francis catches 6 passes for 66 yards and 1 TD to lead Atlanta's attack. Bartkowski struggles after a fast start, hitting just 9-of-23 attempts for 94 yards, while tossing 3 INTs.
