Game Notes

49ers escape with a 24-23 win over the Lions.

San Francisco is able to advance when Eddie Murray leaves a 41-yard FG attempt wide right w/ :11 left. Detroit had driven within range after Joe Montana's 14-yard TD pass to Freddie Solomon put the 49ers back in front with 1:18 remaining.

San Francisco had led after converting the 1st 2 of Gary Danielson's 5 INTs into a pair of TDs for a 14-3 lead in the 1st half. However, the Lions gradually crawled back into the game and took a 23-17 lead on Billy Sims' 3-yard TD run w/ 4:54 to play. Sims finishes with 114 yards and 2 TDs.

The 49ers immediately answered the go-ahead score with a 70-yard drive for the winning TD. Detroit had outgained San Francisco 412-to-291 yards, but were undone by 5 INTs and a pair of missed FGs.
