Washington rolls to a big early lead and cruises beating Detroit for the 20th straight time at home. Stephen Davis runs for 119 yards before departing with an injury in the 2nd quarter, and rushes for TDs on the Redskins' 1st 2 drives as they score on each of their 1st 4 possessions to open a 20-0 lead.

After punting on its 5th possession, Washington caps the 1st half with an 82-yard drive finished by Brad Johnson's 30-yard TD pass to Albert Connell. The Lions are unable to mount an offense until the closing minutes after Ron Rice returns a blocked FG 94 yards for a TD to get on the scoreboard ahead of a offensive TD on the final play of the game.
