Washington opens a 21-7 lead lead in the 1st half and holds off Minnesota which drops the ball repeatedly to stop multiple scoring opportunities in the 2nd half. Meanwhile, John Riggins carries the load for the Redskins, rushing for 185 yards and 1 TD.

Washington jumps in front 14-0 on a 3-yard TD pass from Joe Theismann to Don Warren, followed by Riggins' 2-yard TD run on 4th-and-inches. The Vikings draw within 14-7 on Ted Brown's 19-yard TD run, but the Redskins quickly answer with Theismann's 18-yard TD pass to Alvin Garrett.
